BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -Vanderbilt senior Amanda Taylor of Richland, Wash., defeated Betsy Flanzer of DePauw in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the third round of the 2007 ITA National Summer Championships in Bloomington.
Taylor, the second seed in the women’s singles draw, easily handled Flanzer, only losing one game throughout the match. She will meet Anne McCarthy of Illinois in Sunday’s third round.
Incoming freshman Katie Kilborn lost her second-round match, falling to the 17th seed Neela Vaez in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Taylor and Kilborn open up doubles play competition on Sunday when they face Carissa and Bianca Aboubakare. Taylor and Kilborn are the No. 4 seed in the women’s doubles draw.
