Aug. 2, 2007

Rising Vanderbilt junior Jon Curran qualified for the United States Amateur Championship by earning medalist honors at The Ochards in South Hadley, Mass.

Curran becomes the second Commodore this week to qualify for the U.S. Amateur, following teammate Chris Rockwell’s third place finish at the Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead, Md.

They will join the nation’s top amateur golfers at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., August 20-26. The United States Amateur Championship is the oldest of the 13 Championships conducted by the United States Golf Association, and is the most prestigious amateur event in the nation.

More than 300 players participated in last year’s event. The tournament consists of two rounds of stroke play followed by a match-play bracket featuring the low 64 players.
