Sean Walker became a major offensive weapon for the Commodores in 2006 as a deep threat from his wide receiver position. As preseason camp approaches, Walker joins All-American Earl Bennett and George Smith in a talented Commodore receiving corps.
What have you been up to this summer?
I’ve been working at the Martha O’Bryan Center and am also taking two summer school classes. For football, I’ve been in the weight room with the guys with the goal to get bigger and faster for the season.
Talk more about the Martha O’Bryan Center.
We teach some classes and run activities for the kids to teach them life skills so they are informed about high school and college life. Most of these kids don’t have a male figure at home, so it’s a great feeling to be able to make an impact in their lives.
What were some of your off-season goals?
Some of my goals during the summer were to add a little weight and strength but also to increase my speed. I’ve gained a lot more strength in comparison to last year. I’m excited about contributing even more this year and expect to play a bigger role in the offense.
What do you do to work on your speed?
One of the best things for me is extending stretching sessions to make myself more flexible.
Talk about the depth of the wide receivers.
I’m glad Earl [Bennett] gets all the hype. It makes the rest of us want to get better. His work ethic also helps us improve as a team. None of us are selfish. We all know we play different roles and want to contribute in any way we can to help the team win.
Tell us something fans don’t know about you.
I like to play the piano and write songs. I’ve been playing the piano since 10th grade and was actually in the school band back in 6th grade. I was a percussionist and was one of the best in that area.
What movie have you seen recently?
I was surprised by how good Transformers turned out. I watched the cartoon when I was younger. My brother got me back into it.
What about music?
I’ve been listening to the latest T.I. album.
Are you excited about the upcoming season?
We’re all excited since there are less than 40 days remaining until kickoff. It’s going to be a very promising year and we’re focused on getting to a bowl. We’ve been working hard and are ready for fall practice.
