NEW YORK (June 27, 2007) – David Price, a junior pitcher for Vanderbilt who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, was named CSTV’s College Baseball Player of the Year.
Price garnered 58 of a possible 80 points from the voting panel. In his final collegiate season, Price finished 11-1 with a 2.63 ERA, and led the nation with 194 strikeouts in 133 1/3 innings.
Texas sophomore outfielder Kyle Russell ended up in second with 56 points, while Florida senior first baseman Matt LaPorta finished just a point behind in third place.
Now in its second year, the CSTV Player of the Year feature is a weekly poll that ranks the nation’s top baseball players, voted on by CSTV and CSTV.com baseball experts and national and regional college baseball reporters. In 2006, University of Houston pitched Brad Lincoln was named the inaugural CSTV Player of the Year.
