BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Vanderbilt rising juniors Jacqui Concolino and Amber Lundskog each claimed victories in the opening round of match play competition Tuesday at the 92nd annual Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship at Riverchase Country Club.
Concolino defeated Amber Hensley of the Cedar Ridge Country Club in Oklahoma 3 and 2 to advance to the round of 16 of the championship flight. She will face Auburn rising sophomore Candace Schepperle Wednesday at 12:59 p.m. CT.
Lundskog defeated Angela Stewart of the Ironwood Golf and Country Club in North Carolina 3 and 2. She advances to quarterfinal round of the first flight where she will take on Lecia Alexander of the Riverbend Country Club in Texas Wednesday at 2:58 p.m.
Concolino, a native of Orlando, Fla., earned her seeding in the 96-player event after tying for sixth in the qualifying round on Monday with a 1-under-par 71. Lundskog, a native of San Diego, Calif., was seeded in the 16-player first flight after posting a 6-over 78 during qualifying. Arkansas rising senior Stacy Lewis took first place in Monday’s qualifying with a 5-under 67.
