Two Vanderbilt women’s golf players earned accolades from the Southeastern Conference Thursday when league coaches voted sophomore Jacqui Concolino a first-team selection and senior Kristen Svicarovich a second-team performer.
Currently ranked No. 7 in the nation according to the most recent Golfstat listings, Concolino’s five top-five finishes this season are tied with Georgia’s Taylor Leon and Florida’s Sandra Gal for most in the SEC. Her 72.54 stroke average leads all Commodores and ranks as the third best in the league. Last weekend, Concolino tied for fifth place with a 1-over par 217 at the SEC Championship at Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Miss.
Concolino’s achievement also extends an outstanding streak of excellence for the Commodore program. A Vanderbilt player now has earned first-team All-SEC honors for a school-record five consecutive seasons. Last year, Concolino became the first freshman in program history to earn first-team recognition.
Svicarovich is enjoying a solid senior campaign at Vanderbilt. Owner of the Commodores’ second-best stroke average at 75.54, the Hillsboro, Ore., native ranks 10th among SEC players and is listed at No. 63 nationally. Svicarovich has posted a career-best five top-10 finishes this year. She tied for fourth place with a 3-over par 216 effort at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in late February.
Tenth-ranked Vanderbilt will learn its destination for postseason play on April 30 when selections are announced for the NCAA regionals. Sixty-four teams make up the field with 21 squads competing May 10-12 at three sites: Baton Rouge, La. (East), Ann Arbor, Mich. (Central) and St. George, Utah (West).
The top eight teams from each site, as well as the top two individual performers not from an advancing squad, move on to compete in the NCAA Championship May 22-25 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
