NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis team members Amanda Fish and Amanda Taylor earned a ninth-place national rank on the ITA doubles chart, becoming the first VU tandem to crack the Top 10 since 2004.
Fish, a senior from Scituate, Mass., and Taylor, a junior from Richland, Wash., have led the Commodore doubles charge at No. 1 since early February. The duo compiled an 8-3 SEC record, posting a recent upset over then-ninth-ranked Kentucky pair Joelle Schwenk and Kim Coventry at the conference tournament in Lexington, Ky.
The Vandy pair has provided a crucial piece of the Commodore doubles success in 2007. The squad has only surrendered only three doubles points through the last 17 matches, which included the ever-challenging conference season and non-conference opponents No. 2 Georgia Tech and No. 24 Texas A&M.
The last time a pair from Head Coach Geoff Macdonald’s squad ranked in the ITA’s Top 10 was in 2004, when VU’s Aleke Tsoubanos and Kelly Schmandt finished the year ranked No. 2 overall. The pair posted a 32-4 mark and set a new Commodore record for consecutive doubles wins (15).
