With the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team’s 6-1 victory over Kentucky on Saturday, the Commodores received a third seed in the SEC tournament with a first round bye. Vanderbilt is scheduled to face the winner of the Mississippi State/Kentucky match at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 20 in Lexington, Ky.

Last season, the Commodores edged LSU 4-3 in the second round of the tournament, but were upset 5-2 by Kentucky in the quarterfinals.

Despite playing for a National Championship in 2001 and making another Final Four run in 2004, the Commodores have never been able to seal an SEC Championship. Vanderbilt’s closest run came in 2004 when the then second-ranked-Florida Gators nipped Vandy 4-0 in the SEC title match.
