NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team will host No. 22 Tennessee and No. 1 Georgia at the Currey Tennis Center this Friday and Sunday.

The Commodores (8-8, 2-4) will be looking to rebound from last week’s losses to Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

The Vols (12-4, 4-2) recently jumped to No. 22 in the ITA rankings, marking their highest point on the charts for 2007. Tennessee’s two SEC losses have been to Florida and LSU.

Last season, the Commodores defeated Tennessee on the road in spectacular fashion. The ‘Dores were playing with one man down, but notched two doubles wins to tie the Vols 1-1 going into the next five singles matches. The horrendous weather conditions forced the singles round to take place on a limited number of courts. The match was tied 3-3 going into the final singles contest with VU’s former walk-on Jordan Magarik and UT’s Ben Rogers.

Magarik clinched the Commodore win with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory nearly six hours after the start of the doubles contest. It was Vandy’s second and last SEC win of 2006.

On Sunday, the Commodores will host top ranked Georgia, who is currently undefeated (17-0, 6-0). Last season, Vanderbilt was shut-out by Georgia in Athens.

Friday’s contest against Tennessee will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s action will start at 1 p.m.
