Orlando, Fla. — The sixth-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team participates in the University of Central Florida Challenge at the Villas of Grand Cypress beginning Monday, March 5. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played on the Par 72, 6,223-yard North and South courses.
The event features eight of the nation’s top 25 women’s golf teams according to the latest Golfweek rankings: current No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Pepperdine, No. 12 Purdue, No. 16 New Mexico, No. 19 Florida and No. 23 Arkansas. The field also boasts four of the top five individuals, including Vanderbilt sophomore Jacqui Concolino, currently ranked No. 2 in the country.
The medalist of the event will receive a sponsor’s exemption to play in the LPGA’s Sybase Classic on May 14-20 in Clifton, N.J.
The Commodores are coming off a 10th-place finish at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, Feb. 26-27 in Tucson, Ariz. Senior Kristen Svicarovich tied for fourth place with a 3-over par 216. Two Commodores had to withdraw from at least one round of play each due to illness.
