Vanderbilt wing players senior Derrick Byars and junior Shan Foster have been selected Division I All-District 7 honorees by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the organization announced Wednesday. Byars earned first team accolades while Foster was picked on the second team.

In consideration for Southeastern Conference player of the year honors, Byars ranks among the league leaders in eight statistical categories since the start of league play. The Memphis native is second in scoring with 19.1 points per game. He is tied for fifth in 3-pointers per game (2.53), seventh in field goal shooting (48.8 percent) and eighth in 3-point shooting (39.2 percent). He posted 24 points in Vanderbilt’s 83-70 win over then-No. 1 Florida and netted 21 of his game-high 26 points in the second half, rallying the Commodores past Kentucky 67-65 on Sunday.

Foster, an All-SEC candidate, netted a career-high 33 points on 10-of-22 shooting with five 3-pointers at South Carolina on Wednesday. The Kenner, La. native has scored in double figures in 23 of Vanderbilt’s 29 games, posting 20 or more points nine times. On the season, he ranks seventh in the conference in scoring (15.7 points), 10th in 3-pointers per game (2.17) and 10th in field goal shooting (45.5 percent).

Joining Byars on the All-District 7 first team are Western Kentucky’s Courtney Lee, Tennessee’s Chris Lofton, Kentucky’s Randolph Morris and Chris Douglas Roberts of Memphis.

Joining Foster on the All-District 7 second team are Austin Peay’s Drake Reed, Louisville’s Terrence Williams, Kentucky’s Joe Crawford and Jeremy Hunt of Memphis.
