NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 25 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team will hope to catch some Memorial Magic at the Currey Tennis Center as they face No. 3 Georgia Tech Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
The Commodores (3-5) are entering the contest with a recent 6-1 win over cross-town rival Middle Tennessee. Georgia Tech soared to the top of the ITA chart three weeks ago when they ended Stanford’s 89-match winning streak to take the ITA Indoors title. The Yellow Jackets tumbled to No. 3 in recent rankings when they were upset by then twenty-fifth ranked William and Mary in mid-February.
Last year the Yellow Jackets snapped a 7-match Commodore winning streak with a 7-0 sweep in Atlanta, marking the Commodores’ worst loss of the season. Less than a month later Vanderbilt snapped back with a 4-3 upset over No. 2 Notre Dame in Nashville.
GT currently boasts four singles competitors in the ITA’s Top 40, including junior Kristi Miller, ranked eleventh. No. 54 freshman Amanda Craddock is undefeated (6-0) at the lower half of the Yellow Jacket lineup.
Eighteenth-ranked Yellow Jacket duo of Miller/Whitney McCray may face nineteenth-ranked Commodores Amanda Fish/Amanda Taylor at No. 1, depending on the health of senior Fish, who has been sidelined through most the season with a minor injury. Fish has played one singles contest and two doubles contests in 2007, including doubles in the most recent match against MTSU.
