Griffin Receives Academic All-American Honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt All-American soccer goalkeeper Tyler Griffin was recently named a National Soccer Coaches Association Academic All-American, for her excellent achievements in both the classroom and on the field.

Griffin graduated magna cum laude with a 3.56 degree in economics and is currently in pursuing a master’s degree in organizational development. The Charlotte, N.C., native earned Academic All-District and Academic All-SEC honors this year as well.

The most decorated player in Vanderbilt soccer history finished her career as a two-time All-American and as the school’s career shutout leader with 31. She posted a 31-11-10 record with a 0.66 goals against average to go along with 224 saves.

Griffin, along with fellow senior Monica Buff were named to the NSCAA Scholar All Region 1st Team, while seniors Kari Boersma and Susan McAleavey and junior Sarah Dennis earned Scholar All Region Honorable Mention plaudits.

Buff is a two-time ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District selection. The Lilburn, Ga., native has a 3.65 grade point average in Economics.

Boersma, a two-time SEC Community Service award winner, earned ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District honors for the second straight year. She graduated magna cum laude with a 3.51 grade point average in mathematics and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in finance in Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management.

McAleavey has always achieved in the classroom and made the most of her opportunity as a full-time starter in the midfield this season with a career best four goals.

Dennis, an Academic Honor Roll winner and philosophy/art studio double major, finished the season with two goals and four assists.
