NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt baseball team will continue its 10-game homestand with a 4 p.m. tilt Wednesday against Lipscomb at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores are 6-0 on the year after sweeping a three-game series over Ohio over the weekend.
Lipscomb is 5-2 on the year after sweeping Chicago State at home this past weekend. Head coach Jeff Forehand is in his first season as the head man at Lipscomb after six seasons at Trevecca Nazarene. They already have beaten one SEC team on the year, taking a 4-3 decision at Auburn on Valentine’s Day.
Lipscomb is batting .264 as a team with one homer, 14 doubles and 41 runs scored in seven games. Senior righthander John King (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to pitch for the Bison. He pitched five strong innings against Auburn last Wednesday and gave up two unearned runs on four hits in the no decision.
Vanderbilt leads the all-time series over Lipscomb 39-9. The two teams split the season series last year with the Commodores winning 16-3 at Ken Dugan Field on April 12, while the Bison rallied from a late 8-4 deficit to defeat VU 11-8 at Hawkins Field on May 8.
Freshman lefthander Mike Minor will be making his first collegiate start on Wednesday. Minor picked up a save in his first outing of the year against Baylor on Feb. 11. He pitched 2.1 innings and did not allow a hit while striking out two and walking one.
All remaining single game tickets in the month of February can be purchased for $1 through the Vanderbilt ticket office (615) 322-GOLD.
