NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt baseball takes its highest ranking ever into a three game series against Ohio starting Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. CT at Hawkins Field.

The Commodores (3-0) open a ten game home stand against the Bobcats who are making their season debut tomorrow.

VU, ranked No. 3 by Collegiate Baseball an Rivals.com, will start sophomore righty Brett Jacobson Friday, sophomore right-hander Nick Christiani on Saturday at 2 p.m. and junior ace David Price at 1p.m. on Sunday.

Ohio returns eight position starters from last year’s team that finished 22-25 overall and 14-13 in the Mid-American East division. Head coach Joe Carbonne is in his 19th year in Athens and sports a 533-435-2 record.

The Bobcats rotation for the weekend is junior college southpaw Matt Smith on Friday, senior lefthander Dan Weiss on Saturday and senior right-hander Zeke Isaacs on Sunday.

The teams have met six times on the baseball diamond; with Ohio winning the first ever match up 7-2 in 1975. The Commodores swept a two-game midweek match up in 2005, including a 3-0 shutout in the second game.

Price will have a special day on Friday as he will pitch in the afternoon, then will head to a banquet sponsored by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in the evening.
