MADISON, Wisc. – Vanderbilt’s No. 17 women’s tennis team dropped their fourth consecutive dual match at the ITA tournament to No. 12 Virginia Commonwealth on Friday morning (5-2).
The Rams (7-1) narrowly clinched the doubles point with a tiebreaker win over Commodores Amanda Taylor and Liberty Sveke (9-8). Caroline Ferrell and Hannah Blatt started the contest by defeating Rams Viktoria Konstantinova and Maria Klokotzky 8-3, marking the duos first win of the season, but Taka Bertrand and Catherine Newman fell 8-5 to Ram competitors.
Vanderbilt’s Amanda Taylor earned her second win of the ITA tournament against Klokotzky (6-3, 6-0) at No. 3 singles. Freshman Newman followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Marianna Yuferova to give the Commodores their final point of the morning.
The Commodores (2-4) will play a final consolation match on Saturday against Texas Christian at 9 am. TCU defeated the Commodores 4-3 in the first round of the tournament in 2006.
