Vanderbilt looks to continue its winning ways Saturday when it welcomes Ole Miss to Memorial Gymnasium for a 12 p.m. tip off. The contest will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports.
The Commodores (14-6, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) have won three consecutive games — all against ranked opponents — to find themselves in a three-way tie for second place in the SEC’s Eastern Division heading into the weekend. A win Saturday would give Vanderbilt its best league start at 5-2 in the eight-year tenure of head coach Kevin Stallings.
Vanderbilt led throughout its last game in posting a 64-53 win over No. 21 LSU Wednesday in Baton Rouge. Derrick Byars led the Commodores in scoring for the fourth time in the past five games en route to registering his second double-double of the season (18 points and 10 rebounds). Shan Foster tallied 14 points, including an important layup and 3-pointer that thwarted a late Tiger rally. Dan Cage hit a game-high four 3-pointers as part of his 14-point effort.
Ole Miss (13-7, 2-4 SEC) is coming off an 83-69 home win over Tennessee on Wednesday. Clarence Sanders scored 20 points to lead the Rebels.
Vanderbilt leads the overall series 68-38 overall, including a 45-7 advantage in Nashville. The Commodores won last year’s meeting 77-62 in Oxford on March 1.
Fans attending the game will have a unique opportunity to give back to their community. Vanderbilt football tailback Cassen Jackson-Garrison is serving as the honorary chairman of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s effort to collect new and gently used winter coats and caps for needy children in surrounding counties.
The project, called “Cassen’s Coats and Caps for the Counties”, calls for fans attending Saturday’s game against Ole Miss to donate used coats and caps at collection sites around Memorial Gymnasium.
