ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 14/11 Vanderbilt women’s basketball team plays its first of two straight games in the state of Georgia Thursday, visiting Stegeman Coliseum, home of the 16th-ranked Lady Bulldogs, for a 6 p.m. CT tip.
The Commodores will return home for Friday classes before turning around to face Georgia Tech at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. — the site of the 2007 Southeastern Conference Tournament (March 1-4).
Sophomore Christina Wirth’s 20 points led five Commodores in double-figures Sunday as Vanderbilt (16-2, 3-1) defeated Florida, 82-69.
Senior Carla Thomas moved into a tie for ninth place on Vanderbilt’s all-time scoring list, equaling former Commodore and current WNBA star Sheri Sam’s 1,537 career points.
Senior Dee Davis stands only 10 assists away from reaching the school record of 673 career assists, currently held by former Commodore Ashley McElhiney.
The Lady Bulldogs are Vanderbilt’s fourth ranked opponent this season. Georgia (14-4, 2-2 SEC) scored its lowest total of the season Sunday in a loss to No. 4 Tennessee.
Georgia knocked Vanderbilt out of the SEC Tournament last season, just two years after the Commodores had defeated the Lady Bulldogs in the conference championship game to earn their fourth league tournament title.
