VUBACK-TO-BACK Wednesday’s win over No. 16 Tennessee coupled with the Commodores’ 73-64 victory over then-No. 25 Georgia Tech on Dec. 9, gives Vanderbilt back-to-back home games against ranked opponents for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign. That season, the Commodores dropped then-No. 5 Kentucky (66-60) on Jan. 31 before defeating then-No. 24 LSU (74-54) on Feb. 21. UGA VASTLY IMPROVED Gameday Central |

Vanderbilt looks for its second consecutive victory Saturday when it travels to Athens to face the Georgia Bulldogs. The game starts at 3 p.m. CT and will not be televised.
The Commodores (11-5, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) provided the latest example of Memorial Gymnasium’s magical atmosphere Wednesday upsetting No. 16 Tennessee 82-81 when Shan Foster put back a Derrick Byars’ miss at the buzzer. With 3.7 second remaining, Byars drove the baseline to the basket but missed. Foster got the ball on the left side and sunk a shot just before time expired to give the Commodores their second win over a ranked opponent in three tries this season.
Byars led all Vanderbilt scorers, posting 20 of his 25 points in the second half to go along with seven rebounds. Dan Cage registered his seventh consecutive double-digit scoring effort with 15 points and seven rebounds. Foster added 14 points.
Georgia (9-5, 1-1 SEC) snapped a four-game losing streak with an impressive 80-56 win over visiting South Carolina on Wednesday. Mike Mercer led three Bulldogs in double figures with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting. The much improved Bulldogs rank among the league’s top three teams in six statistical categories.
Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 77-45. Georgia owns a 29-25 advantage in Athens. The road team won both games last season as the Bulldogs pulled out a 74-73 win in Nashville and the Commodores claimed a 72-55 victory in Athens.
