![]() CageDAN CAGE Senior Guard 10.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg Dan Cage has reached double figures in scoring in each of his last six games for Vanderbilt. The senior guard from Indianapolis, Ind., is coming off a career-high 19-point effort in the Commodores 68-65 setback at Auburn on Saturday. During the stretch, Cage is shooting 51.9 percent from the field (27-of-52) and 50.0 percent from 3-point range (19-of-38). He also is 13-of-15 from the free-throw line (86.7 percent). Vanderbilt plays host to No. 16 Tennessee Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. The Commodores’ Southeastern Conference home opener is sold out and will not be televised.
The visiting Commodores (10-5, 0-1 SEC) fell to Auburn, 68-65, Saturday in their first league contest of the year. Dan Cage scored a career-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting with five 3-pointers. Shan Foster posted his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Tennessee (13-2, 1-0 SEC) has won nine consecutive games heading into today’s game. The Volunteers pulled away late in posting a 92-84 home win over Mississippi State on Sunday. Chris Lofton led four players in double figures with a game-high 28 points. JaJuan Smith added 23 points thanks in part to five 3-pointers.
Vanderbilt is 54-18 all-time in SEC home openers, having won the last four. The Commodores are 1-1 against nationally ranked teams this season having defeated then-No. 25 Georgia Tech (73-64) on Dec. 9 and losing to then-No. 8 Georgetown (86-70) in the season opener on Nov. 15.
Tennessee owns a 104-65 lead in the overall series, including two wins a year ago: 69-62 in Knoxville on Feb. 1 and 68-59 in Nashville on March 4. Vanderbilt owns a 44-31 advantage in Nashville.
