ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Refusing to take a break during the winter holiday, six members of the Commodore men’s golf team are taking part in the 81st-annual New Year’s Invitational at the St. Petersburg Country Club beginning this Thursday, Jan. 4.
Defending champion Luke List is joined at the event by VU teammates Jon Curran, John Ebert, Hudson Johnson, Tyler Matthews and Chris Rockwell. List won last year’s event — with a field of 113 amateurs — at seven-under, edging Tennessee’s Jonathan Mount by two strokes.
The four-day, 72-hole event is played on the St. Petersburg Country Club’s par-72, 6,718-yard layout. Vanderbilt golfers have won two of the last three championships at the New Year’s Invitational, with Brandt Snedeker capturing the title in 2004.
