Vanderbilt senior point guard Dee Davis was one of only 30 student-athletes named to the preseason watch list for the Women’s John R. Wooden Award, presented annually to the top collegiate women’s basketball player.
Davis led the Southeastern Conference in assists a season ago, ranking fourth in the nation with 6.8 assists per game (212 assists in 31 games). She earned All-SEC honors for the 2005-06 season and was lauded by league coaches as a first-team All-SEC selection for the upcoming season.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native is the backbone of Head Coach Melanie Balcomb’s Commodores. Vanderbilt went 21-11 a year ago, making its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. In preseason polls, the Commodores were picked as high as No. 11 in the nation.
Vanderbilt opened its preseason schedule on Thursday with a 94-64 victory over DT3.
The Commodores play host to their final exhibition game versus Premier Players on Monday, Nov. 6, at Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Tickets are available at the door for five dollars ($5). Monday’s game is also included in VU’s season ticket package, which starts as low as $25 for Vanderbilt’s 16-game home schedule.
The squad opens its regular season schedule next Sunday (Nov. 12) at Big 12 foe Colorado. Tip-off in Boulder is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
