BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Vanderbilt seniors Dee Davis and Carla Thomas were named preseason All-Southeastern Conference selections by a vote of league coaches announced Tuesday.

Davis, who led the SEC in assists a season ago, was a first-team choice. Her 6.8 assists per game last year ranked third in the nation and earned her a spot on the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list.

Thomas led the Commodores in scoring last season at 12.4 points per game, surpassing 1,000 points for her career early in the conference season. After earning second-team All-SEC from the media at the conclusion of last season, the coaches made Thomas a second-team preseason pick this year.

Vanderbilt joins Georgia and LSU with two honorees on the All-SEC team, while Tennessee led the league with three selections. Georgia’s Tasha Humphrey, LSU’s Sylvia Fowles and Tennessee’s Candace Parker were all unanimous first-team choices.

The SEC begins its annual Media Day on Tuesday, with Vanderbilt scheduled to participate in the event on Wednesday morning in Birmingham.
