104.5 FM to Broadcast from Vanderbilt Tuesday 10/17/2006 On campus in Nashville, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt flagship radio station, 104.5 The Zone, will broadcast the popular SportsZone afternoon show from the Commodore practice facilities Tuesday. Several Vanderbilt officials, including Chancellor Gordon Gee, Vice Chancellor David Williams, Football Head Coach Bobby Johnson and Baseball Head Coach Tim Corbin are expected to appear on the five-hour broadcast, which starts at 2:00 p.m. CT. SportsZone co-hosts George Plaster, Willy Daunic and Darren McFarland also will promote a radio station-sponsored $104 discount announced Monday that includes football tickets to the Commodores’ upcoming home games against South Carolina this Saturday, Florida on Nov. 4, and Tennessee on Nov. 18, and the Vanderbilt men’s basketball Nov. 15 early-season encounter with talented Georgetown. The Commodores, 3-4 overall, are coming off a 24-22 victory at Georgia last week in front of a regional audience. The squad hosts Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks this Saturday for homecoming, with kickoff at 2:00 p.m., CT. South Carolina, 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC East, is coming off a bye week following a 24-17 win over Kentucky two weeks ago. This marks the first appearance at a Vanderbilt football practice for the SportsZone crew. The show originating from the Commodore practice facilities stems from an invitation by Coach Johnson several weeks ago. The broadcast schedule for 104.5 The Zone this afternoon follows: 2-3 p.m. Darren McFarland with John McClain, noted NFL writer from the Houston Chronicle. 3:10 p.m. Bobby Johnson welcomes the SportsZone hosts to practice, and discusses his squad and this week’s opponent. 3:40 p.m. Tim Corbin discusses the Black & Gold baseball scrimmage, scheduled this Friday and Sunday at Hawkins Field. 4-5 p.m. David Climer, columnist with the Tennessean, spends an hour discussing Vanderbilt and other Middle Tennessee sports topics. 5:05 p.m. Chancellor Gee joins hosts for a 20-minute interview. 6:05 p.m. Vice Chancellor David Williams joins broadcast to discuss Vanderbilt athletics. |
