Chris Booker- SEC Community Service Player of Week 10/8/2006 From SECsports.com (click here for the SEC’s Week 7 notebook) SEC COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM PLAYER OF THE WEEK Vanderbilt senior defensive end Chris Booker will be featured this week as the SEC Community Service Team Player of the Week on this weekend’s Lincoln Financial Sports telecast of the Vanderbilt at Georgia contest. A frequent visitor to Nashville area schools, Booker talks about the importance of staying in school and his use of sign language. After spending two semesters learning to sign, Booker uses the technique to talk with hearing impaired patients at several Nashville locations, including Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. In two of the last three summers, Booker has volunteered to work with youngsters five days a week at the Middle Tennessee Boys and Girls Club. Booker is expected to earn two undergraduate degrees next May, Engineering Science and Economics. Each week during the SEC football season, Lincoln Financial Sports will highlight a representative of the 2006 SEC Football Community Service Team. Student-Athletes earn SEC Good Works Team recognition for their community service and campus activities. The SEC sponsors 16 Good Works Teams during the season, including one for each sport in the SEC, combining the indoor and outdoor track & field and cross country teams into one unit.
