Vanderbilt Soccer Opens SEC Play This Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt’s women soccer team kicks off the Southeastern Conference portion of its schedule this weekend on the road against LSU and Arkansas.

The Commodores will take on LSU on Friday at 7 p.m., and will then face Arkansas in Fayetteville on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Vanderbilt is 4-1-3 on the year and 4-0-1 in its last five games after disposing of UAB and Middle Tennessee last weekend in Nashville.

The Commodores are ranked No. 6 in the Central Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American and No. 12 by Soccer Buzz.

LSU is 5-4 on the season after defeating South Alabama and Southern Miss on the road last weekend. Freshman Michelle Makasini leads the team in scoring with eight goals and three assists, while goalkeeper Jackie Moseley sports a 1.44 goals against average in seven games played.

The Commodores hold a 7-1-1 all-time series lead over the Tigers including a 2-0 win last year in Nashville.

Arkansas is 7-1 on the year after defeating Tulsa and Memphis on the road last weekend. The Razorbacks host Kentucky in their conference opener on Friday.
Senior Christina Burger leads the offense with five goals and three assists, while goalkeeper Carrie Dillsaver has recorded four shutouts and has a 0.73 goals against average on the year.

Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 11-6-1 and snapped a three game losing streak to the Razorbacks with a 5-0 win last season in Nashville.

After the two-game road swing, the Commodores will return home for a four-game homestand starting next Friday against Alabama at 7 p.m. at the VU Soccer Complex.
