9/21/2006 The 19th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team prepares for another challenging tournament this weekend when the Commodores travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. for the NCAA Fall Preview, Sept. 22-24. The 54-hole event will take place at the LPGA’s International Legends Course, the home of the 2007 NCAA National Championship scheduled for May 22-25. The course also serves as the annual site for LPGA qualifying. For the second consecutive tournament, the Commodores will compete against a talented field. Twelve of the 20 squads participating in the NCAA Fall Preview are ranked in the latest Golfweek magazine rankings (from Sept. 18), including six Southeastern Conference teams and two-time defending national champion Duke. “This is another great field we’re competing against,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards Freitag said. “Anytime you get to play at the site of the NCAA Championships, you look forward to a great tournament.” Vanderbilt opened its 2006 fall season last weekend by playing host to the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin. That tournament also featured 12 ranked participants, with the Commodores finishing 10th. “From tee to green we played really well last week,” Freitag said. “I liked the way we hit the ball, we just need to get some putts to fall. The team wants to show that it is better than the scores posted at the Mason Rudolph Championship.” Commodore sophomore Jacqui Concolino was Vanderbilt’s top finisher last weekend, tying for 11th place with a 1-over par 217. The sophomore from Orlando, Fla. is ranked 18th nationally, according to Golfweek. Other Commodores competing in the NCAA Fall Preview will be seniors Chris Brady and Kristen Svicarovich, junior Liebelei Lawrence and freshman Brooke Goodwin.
