First Half

* Vanderbilt scored a touchdown on its opening drive of the game at the 8:02 mark in the first quarter. The nine play,  87 yard drive, was capped off by Chris Nickson’s first career rushing touchdown from seven yards out.

* The touchdown drive was bolstered by redshirt freshman Jared Hawkins’ career long 41-yard run.

* Freshman cornerback Myron Lewis saw his first collegiate action in the first quarter.

* Redshirt freshman Darlron Spead contributed his first career interception at the 13:19 mark in the second quarter and returned it 26 yards.

? At 6:44 in the second half, Vanderbilt concluded its second touchdown drive with a Chris Nickson to Cassen Jackson-Garrison nine-yard pass. It was Jackson-Garrison’s first career touchdown reception. The 67-yard drive included a 32-yard rush by Hawkins.

? Freshman Brett Upson’s 69-yard punt with a minute left in the first half was a career long, besting his previous high of 50 yards set last week against Alabama.

Second Half

? At the 6:04 mark in the third quarter, the Vanderbilt defense stopped a fourth and one from the Commodore 28. Marcus Buggs and Jonathan Goff combined on the tackle of Darren McFadden for no gain.

? At the 13:54 mark in the fourth quarter, Chris Nickson scored on his second touchdown run from 15 yards out to bring Vanderbilt within two at 21-19. The drive consumed 10 plays and covered 69 yards.

? At the 4:53 mark in the fourth quarter, Vanderbilt stopped Arkansas on a third and six from their 39-yard line forcing a punt. Marcus Buggs had a quarterback pressure and Reshard Langford came through with a pass breakup.

Final Notes

? The 245 total rushing yards were a season best and most since running for 246 yards against Kentucky on Nov. 15, 2003. The 364 yards of total offense was a season high.

? Chris Nickson had a career high 74 rushing yards on 13 carries with a career best two touchdowns.

? Jared Hawkins ran for a career-best 76 yards on three carries.

? Cassen Jackson-Garrison had a season high 90 yards rushing and a career best 21 rushes. His previous high in carries was 18 last year against Tennessee.

? Joel Caldwell recorded a career high with seven tackles in the game. Theo Horrocks tied his career high of six tackles set against Florida in 2004, and Marcus Buggs finished with a career best three tackles for loss. Steven Stone also notched a career best three and half tackles. Curtis Gatewood also recorded his first career sack.
