Sixty Seconds with Jacqui Concolino 9/14/2006 With the 2006 Mason Rudolph Championship starting this Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., VUcommodores.com caught up with women’s golfer Jacqui Concolino. Jacqui Concolino – Sophomore Tell Us About Your Summer. I had a nice and relaxing summer. I took the month of June off to reevaluate my game strengths and weaknesses and to recharge for the grind of the Division I Golf Season. In July, I was given the opportunity to play in the Friendship Cup and represent the United States against China. That was an experience I will never forget. I finished with a 3-0-1 record and the United States defeated China for the Cup. Better Movie- Happy Gilmore or Caddyshack? Happy Gilmore. I grew up in a hockey crazy family. I was basically born in an ice rink. I have loved hockey since I was little and Happy Gilmore is a mix of my two favorite sports (plus it has my favorite actor – Adam Sandler). Favorite All-Time Movie? The Greatest Game Ever Played. It’s an inspirational film… it gives me a reassuring feeling that I can compete with the best. Something You Do to Kill Time? I work out and watch TV. I also love to watch golf, which lets me assess how the pro players handle themselves in different situations. Favorite TV Show? Sex and The City… It has to be one of the funniest shows ever. It’s very catchy and addicting… hence the Sex and the City episode marathon I had this summer with teammate Liebelei (Lawrence). Best Sense of Humor on the Team? I would have to say other than me it would have to be Coach (Freitag). She has a story for everything and a sense of humor that helps lighten the mood at all times. Your Favorite Golf Moment? At the Friendship Cup this summer, my partner (Kimbra Kosak) and I were 2 shots down with 3 holes remaining. Hole 16 was a reachable par 5 for my style of play. I hit a hard drive down the left side of the hole and it landed in a fairway bunker. I was approximately 202 yards to the pin and had to carry the ball about 185-190 to clear the water, so I pulled out a 4 iron. I hit that shot so flush that I thought I “chunked” it because I didn’t feel it come off the face. The ball landed on the center of the green and stopped just 15-20 feet from the cup. Everyone on the USA team was was going crazy. It was an amazing feeling- my heart was pounding so much after that shot that I had to slow myself down on the walk to the green. |
