9/9/2006 MORAGA, Calif. — Vanderbilt and No. 14 California battled to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon in the final game of the Saint Mary’s Fall Classic at Garaventa Field. The Commodores moved to 2-1-3 on the year, while the Bears remained unbeaten at 4-0-2. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Griffin recorded three saves in her third shutout of the season. She now has 26 in her career and needs three more to move past Christy Barringer’s (1992-95) school record of 28.5. Cal had more opportunities to score throughout the game, holding an 11-4 shot advantage and a 5-2 corner kick lead as well. Merideth Kohn, Lea Lafield, Susan McAleavey and Amy Wilcox each recorded a shot for the Commodores, while Brianna Bak led the Bears with two shots on goal. Vanderbilt was without the services of sophomore starter Katie Schulz, who had to sit out of the contest due to receiving a red card in Thursday’s win over Saint Mary’s. VU went 2-1-1 in its road trip over the last two weekends and will return to Nashville for a two-game homestand next week.
