Former Pac 10 Player of the Year Shaquala Williams has joined the Vanderbilt women’s basketball staff as the team’s video coordinator, Head Coach Melanie Balcomb announced Wednesday.

“We are excited to welcome Shaquala Williams onto our staff,” Balcomb said. “From her time in the WNBA to playing overseas, she has had many positive experiences and will bring new ideas to our program that can only help us.”

A native of Portland, Ore., Williams graduated from the University of Oregon in 2003 with a bachelor of science in sociology. She played in 25 games during the 2003 WNBA season as a member of the Los Angeles Sparks.

Williams was an assistant coach at Sacramento State for one season before traveling abroad to play professionally in Poland and Turkey. At Vanderbilt, she will be responsible for breakdown of all game tapes as well as coordinating film exchange.

“I am very excited about joining the Vanderbilt community,” Williams said. “Both the university and the women’s basketball program have tremendous reputations. I look forward to learning as much as I can from an excellent coach staff and finding ways to contribute to this team’s success.”
