Concolino Claims Singles Match at Friendship Cup 7/28/2006 Vanderbilt’s Jacqui Concolino won her singles match but dropped her four-ball match on the second day of competition Friday at the USA-China Friendship Cup at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. The United States owns a 16-8 advantage in the competition heading into final-round action Saturday. Team USA claimed matches and halved two others in the morning session of singles play. The U.S. men’s squad swept the afternoon four-ball matches while China won both women’s points. In the morning singles match, Concolino pushed the American lead to eight points with a 5 and 3 victory against Lie Wei. In the afternoon four-ball match, Concolino teamed with Kimbra Kosak of Division III’s Gustavus Adolphus but lost 2 and 1 to Lie Wei and Zhou Xiaoxuan. Team USA consists of four women and eight men – all true freshmen in college. |
