Several Radio Interviews on Tap for Johnson

Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson will discuss his Commodore squad and the upcoming season on several radio stations leading to his appearance at the Southeastern Conference Media Days Wednesday, July 26.

Johnson, entering his fifth season at the helm of Vanderbilt football, will kick off the radio tour Tuesday afternoon in Nashville, spending an hour in-studio with hosts of “The Sports Zone,” Music City’s highest-rated sports talk show. Johnson will appear with FM 104.5 co-hosts George Plaster, Willy Daunic and Darren McFarland starting at 3:30 p.m., CST.

In the coming days, the head coach will also make an in-studio appearance on Nashville’s newest live radio sports show, talk with hosts from two shows on Nashville’s WNSR 560-AM, and discuss the season with a syndicated show across the Southeast. Johnson’s last interview prior to SEC Media Days will be back on FM 104.5, the Vanderbilt Radio Network flagship station, talking with “The Wake Up Zone” crew.

Johnson and Commodore co-captains Jonathan Goff, a redshirt junior linebacker, and Brian Stamper, a senior offensive tackle, will appear before hundreds of media representatives at SEC Media Days in Birmingham.

Johnson will likely to touch on several topics during the interviews, ranging from his top returnees from the 5-6 2005 squad to the program’s “Commodores in the Community” activities that start this Friday with Johnson and selected players appearing at the Chick-fil-A restaurant at Rivergate Mall north of Nashville. On Saturday, Commodore fans can join players and staff at a community service project Saturday morning at the Andrew Jackson Boys and Girls Club, located on 16th Avenue North near Fisk University.

Wednesday, July 19, 5 p.m.
Coach Johnson will appear in studio for 30 minutes with hosts Jonathan Shaffer, Boots Donnelly and Bob Bell. The new show features Donnelly, a highly respected and very successful former high school and college football coach in Middle Tennessee, and Bell, well-known to many local sports fans as the television play-by-play announcer for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Hosted by Max Howell, this program is a syndicated show from Destin, Fla. Howell is a long-time radio talk host, former college coach and enthusiastic follower of SEC football.

Hosted by Vanderbilt sideline reporter Kevin Ingram, former Tennessee Titan standout Frank Wycheck and long-time Nashville television personality Mark Howard, the Wake Up Zone is fast becoming one of Nashville’s most popular morning talk shows.

The Commodores open their 2006 season on the road against powerful Big Ten member Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 2, followed by a SEC road game Sept. 9 at Alabama. The team’s home opener, scheduled Sept. 16, is against SEC West Division foe Arkansas.

Season tickets for Vanderbilt’s six home games are the least expensive in the SEC, starting at $80 per person. Besides Arkansas, the Commodores host Tennessee State on Sept. 23, Temple on Sept. 30, South Carolina on Oct. 21, Florida on Nov. 4 and Tennessee on Nov. 18. To purchase season tickets, click here!
