7/14/2006 Fort Lauderdale—Michelle Peloquin and Josie Earnest were among the 16 women reaching Friday’s finals at the United States Junior Gold Bowling Championships here Thursday. Earnest, a freshman from Vandalia, Ill., was in sixth place with 5924 total pins, an average of 197.46 after 30 games while Peloquin, a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt, was ninth with 5,889 total pins after four days of competition. Two other Commodore sophomores-to-be made the first cut to 66 from the field of 435 but failed to reach the top 16 finals. Karen Grygiel (Brick, NJ) finished in a tie for 32nd while Kaitlyn Reynolds ended up 58th in the strong field. “Once again Michelle and Josie were strong,” Coach John Williamson said. “They will need big efforts Friday as the 16 finalists do a round-robin match play in which their total pins along with bonus points for each head-to-head victory are calculated to determine the final standings. Both women would like to make the USA Junior National Team, which takes the top six finishers. I also thought Karen and Kaitlyn had good tournaments. Karen was making another good rally today but she just ran out of time.” The national tournament concludes Friday afternoon. Complete results are on bowl.com |
