Concolino to Compete in Friendship Cup 6/27/2006 Vanderbilt rising sophomore Jacqui Concolino has been selected to compete for America in the inaugural USA-China Friendship Cup, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday. Team USA will consist of eight men and four women — all true freshmen — to compete in matches held July 27-29 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. Other women’s players taking part include Jennifer Osborn of Arizona State, Kimbra Kosak of Division III Gustavus Adolphus, and Kristi Piepenbrink of Division II Indianapolis. Concolino earned selection following an outstanding freshman campaign at Vanderbilt. The Orlando, Fla., native who ended the year ranked 12th nationally, received second team All-America honors from both Golfweek magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association. She won two tournaments in the spring season and recorded strong finishes in both the Southeastern Conference Championship (fourth) and the NCAA East Regional (tie for 10th). The other members of the team USA women’s foursome also achieved high acclaim this season. Osborn received second team All-America honors at Arizona State while Kosak and Piepenbrink were named NGCA national freshmen of the year for their respected divisions. Concolino helped lead the 2005-06 Vanderbilt women’s golf team that finished No. 14 in the nation according to Golfweek magazine. Six letterwinners will return for the 2006-07 campaign. |
