NATIONAL TEAM GAME AGAINST PITTSFIELD CALLED DUE TO RAIN PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The USA National Team’s contest against the Pittsfield Dukes was halted in the fourth inning due to persistent rain in the area and wet field conditions. The USA was ahead 6-0 after batting in the top of the fourth. The teams played through a consistent rain before deciding to end it. Because it did not go a minimum of five innings, it is not listed as an official game. Starting pitcher David Price (Vanderbilt) no-hit the Dukes for three innings and struck out four with two walks. The team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first courtesy of a bases clearing triple by leftfielder Todd Frazier (Rutgers). The team added three more runs in the fourth on a two-run double by catcher Preston Clark (Texas) and a RBI single by shortstop Zack Cozart (Ole Miss). First baseman Sean Doolittle (Virginia) and rightfielder Roger Kieschnick (Texas Tech) both had hits in the contest as well. The team will now head for Keene, N.H. tomorrow morning and practice Monday afternoon at approximately 1 p.m. at Alumni Field. They will next be in game action on Tuesday as they will play another Red-Blue game at 1 p.m. ET, followed by a contest against the Keene Swampbats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League at 7 p.m. |
