Vanderbilt’s David Price one of five finalists for the honor. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year, ESPNU, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, will televise the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Show. The half-hour program will be aired Friday, June 23 at noon CDT and will feature interviews with all of the candidates before the announcement of this year¹s winner. For the past 28 years, USA Baseball has honored the top amateur players in the country with this award. This year’s candidates include: Tim Lincecum (RHP, Washington), Evan Longoria (IF, Long Beach State), Andrew Miller (LHP, North Carolina), David Price (LHP, Vanderbilt) and Drew Stubbs (OF, Texas). Price, an All-American selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, is the first Commodore to ever become a finalist for the award. The lefthander finished the year with a 9-5 record and a school record 155 strikeouts in 110.1 innings. |
