Price, Alvarez Named All-Americans 6/14/2006 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt baseball’s dynamic duo of freshman third baseman Pedro Alvarez and sophomore pitcher David Price continue to pick up postseason honors as both were named All-Americans by national entities today. Alvarez was a first team All-American selection by Baseball America and was the lone freshman named to its three teams. He is also Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman Player of the Year and a Freshman All-American as well as a first team All-South Region pick by the American Baseball Coaches Association. The New York City resident is the fourth Commodore in school history to earn first team honors. Price was a third team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association. It marked the second straight year he has received All-American plaudits as he was named a Freshman All-American last season by Baseball America. The Murfreesboro native is also one of five finalists for the Golden Spikes Award and was a semifinalist for the Roger Clemens Award. Both players also were selected to compete for a spot on the USA Baseball National Team that travels across the country during the summer as well as to Cuba in August. |
