Three More Commodores Selected in MLB Draft

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ­­— Three more Commodores were selected in the second day of the amateur baseball draft Wednesday afternoon.

Senior catcher Brian Hernandez was the first Vandy player selected on Wednesday, as the San Diego Padres selected him in the 19th round

The Detroit Tigers selected junior pitcher Casey Weathers in the 25th round, and junior southpaw Greg Moviel was picked in the 26th round by the Seattle Mariners to close out the Commodores selected in the draft.

Hernandez finished the year with a .302 batting average to go along with a team-high 21 doubles, three homers and 43 RBI. The 21 doubles tied him for fifth best in school history.

Weathers went 1-1 with a 3.33 ERA in 21 relief appearances in his first season at Vanderbilt. He struck out 38, while walking 16 in 27.0 innings and tied for the team lead in saves with three.

Moviel pitched in three games this season, including a start against Butler, and struck out four batters with six walks in 3.2 innings.

Overall, four Commodores and two signees were picked in the draft.
