Concolino Named NGCA Second Team All-American 5/30/2006
Becomes First Commodore Freshman to Earn Honor Vanderbilt’s Jacqui Concolino has been named second-team All-America the National Golf Coaches Association announced Tuesday. She becomes the first freshman in school history to earn the distinction as one of the top 22 golfers in the nation. Concolino, who led the Commodores with a 73.10 stroke average for the 2005-06 campaign, finished the year ranked 12th nationally according to GOLFWEEK/Sagarin ratings. She recorded six Top 10 finishes, including medalist honors at both the Arizona Wildcat Invitational and the LSU/Cleveland Classic. The Orlando, Fla., native led Vanderbilt at the NCAA East Regional, May 11-13, tying for 10th place with an even-par 216. She finished one stroke from qualifying for the NCAA Championship. “It’s an outstanding accomplishment and shows what a great year it was for Jacqui,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards Freitag said. “It’s a real credit to her to finish among the top players in the nation.” Concolino also became the first Commodore freshman to earn All-Southeastern Conference first team accolades. She earned the honor after finishing fourth at the Southeastern Conference Championship, April 14-16, at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. |
