5/25/2006 STANFORD, Calif. — Vanderbilt’s Taka Bertrand, Amanda Fish, and Ryan Preston will advance to the second round of the NCAA singles competition following their wins on Wednesday at Stanford. Bertrand defeated 5th seed Zsuzsanna Fodor of California in a straight set win (6-2, 6-3). On Thursday Bertrand will take on Stanford’s fifth singles player Celia Durkin at 10 a.m. (pacific). Fish took the evening spot at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and defeated Anca Anastasiu of Southern California in a two-set win that included a tiebreaker in the final set (6-0, 7-6(4)). Fish will battle Northwestern’s No. 2 singles player Cristelle Grier on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Ryan Preston, Vanderbilt’s only male representative, also advanced in singles after defeating Roy Sichel of Charlotte.
