Baseball Heads to SEC Tournament 5/23/2006 Vanderbilt opens postseason play this week at the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala. The Commodores finished the regular season with a 33-23 overall record and a 16-14 mark in league play. They are the sixth seed in the tourney and will face the No. 3 seed Georgia on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Hoover Met. Should Vanderbilt win they would face the winner of the No. 2 seed Kentucky-No. 7 seed South Carolina game on Thursday at 5 p.m. If the Dores were to fall to UGA, they would face the loser of the above mentioned contest on Thursday at 10 a.m. Vanderbilt is making its 10th SEC Tournament appearance in the 30 year history of the event. It is the third time in four years under head coach Tim Corbin that they have made the tourney, which is the best run since the team made the 1992-96 events. Outside of Kentucky, Vanderbilt has the least amount of SEC tournament experience entering Wednesday’s contest. Only three players have seen any action in the tourney, with four at-bats total on the offensive end. The Commodores tied a school record with 16 SEC wins this season (first set in 2004) and is making its third SEC tournament appearance in four seasons under head coach Tim Corbin. |
