5/10/2006 Vanderbilt freshman Michelle Peloquin today was named the “Rookie of the Year” for the Division I Central Region by the National Tenpin Coaches Association, which conducted the post-season vote. She was also selected to the five-person Central Region first-team. Two other Commodore freshmen also earned all-region honors. Tara Kane was chosen to the second team and Mandy Keily was an honorable mention selection. Peloquin, a native of Enfield, Ct., had an outstanding season. Her 212 average over 64 games was the second best in the entire NCAA with a high game of 265 and a school record 750 series against national runner-up Alabama A & M. She finished in the Top 10 in six of Vanderbilt’s nine tournaments, including second place performances at Minnesota State and Morgan State. A pre-medicine major, she carries a 3.59 cumulative grade point average. Kane is from Greensburg, Pa., and became the school’s first tournament champion when she won the Arkansas State Invitational. She averaged 199 over 63 games and had four Top 8 finishes along with three games over 265. Kane is in the College of Arts and Sciences with a 3.37 cumulative grade point. Keily, a southpaw from Brighton, Colo., became eligible at the end of the first semester after transferring from Colorado State. She averaged 199 in 43 games with nine games over 225 and two Top 10 finishes. She also sports a grade point over 3.1 in Arts and Science. The Commodores, in just their second year, placed in a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Championship last month. The all-Region team is a precursor to the all-American team that is expected to be announced next week.
