Luke List

ORLANDO, Fla. — Vanderbilt junior Luke List will be a part of the 141-player field at the 2006 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf East Region Championships, hosted at the Lake Nona Golf Club by the University of Central Florida and the Central Florida Sports Commission, May 18-20.

This will be the third consecutive Regional appearance for the Ringgold, Ga., native, but his first without the remainder of the Vanderbilt men’s golf team. As a freshman in 2004, List posted a top 10 finish in the East Regional at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.

“Vanderbilt is pleased to have a player of Luke List’s caliber representing our university in this tournament,” Head Coach Press McPhaul said. “He has had an outstanding season so far, and we expect that to continue over the next few weeks.”

After carding seven top-10 finishes during the 2005-06 campaign and winning medalist honors three times — at the Mason Rudolph Championship, the All-American Classic and the New Year’s Invitational — List earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors for the second straight season.

Top-ranked Georgia earned the region’s No. 1 seed, followed by UCLA, UNLV, Georgia State and North Carolina. Three more teams from the SEC will join Georgia in Orlando — Auburn, Tennessee and South Carolina. Ranked 29th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll, List earned the top seed among the six individuals whose teams did not advance to postseason play. Daniel Willett of Jacksonville State, the region’s No. 2 seeded individual, was ranked 47th.

The top 10 teams and top three individuals not on those 10 teams will advance to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships, May 31-June 3, at the Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort (Ore.).
