Luke List Named First-Team All-SEC 5/1/2006
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt junior Luke List was one of eight men’s golfers to earn All-Southeastern Conference recognition Monday, based on a vote of league coaches. The Ringgold, Ga., native earned seven top-10 finishes, winning medalist honors three times this season — at the Mason Rudolph Championship, the All-American Classic and the New Year’s Invitational. “Luke is a deserving recipient of first-team All-SEC honors,” VU Head Coach Press McPhaul said. “We are extremely proud of the way he has played this year. Luke has had tremendous success at Vanderbilt because he is an extremely dedicated student-athlete. His work ethic matches his talent, and he has been gifted with a great deal of talent.” List and his Commodore teammates now await the word on their postseason fate. The NCAA will announce pairings for the Regional Championships on Monday, May 8. Georgia Head Coach Chris Haack was voted SEC Coach of the Year by his peers while Alabama’s Joseph Sykora was named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Georgia’s Chris Kirk earned the SEC Player of the Year award, while teammate Brian Harman garnered SEC Freshman of the Year honors. List, Kirk and Florida’s Matt Every are all repeat first-team selections. Florida (Every, Billy Horschel and Brett Stegmaier) and Georgia (Kirk, Brian Harman and Brendon Todd) each placed three players of the first team, with Vanderbilt (List) and South Carolina (Eirik Johansen) also represented.
