Men’s Golf Wraps Up SEC Tournament 4/23/2006
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Junior Luke List earned a Top 20 finish at the Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Championship for the third time in his career, posting a two-over 72 on Sunday to end the three-day event in a three-way tie for 11th place overall. As a team, Vanderbilt scored 37-over on the par-70, 6,991-yard Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club to place 10th in the 12-team field. Georgia won the event at 13-under, one stroke ahead of Florida. Individually, Florida’s Brett Stegmaier (five-under) defeated Georgia’s Brian Harman (four-under), as both competitors shot three-under on the back nine Sunday. Starting on the 10th hole during Sunday’s final round, the Commodores struggled to find consistency. Sophomore John Ebert was the only Vanderbilt representative to make it under par in the final round. Ebert birdied his sixth hole of the day to go to one-under, but double-bogeyed the 18th and would remain over par for the remainder of the round. Ebert’s two-over matched List for VU’s best round of the day. List went out at one-over, carding two bogeys against one birdie. Coming in on the front nine, List would again go one-over to finish the event at two-over. List finished 18th at the SEC Championship a year ago after coming in eighth during his freshman season. Also scoring for the Commodores on Sunday were freshmen Tyler Matthews and Jon Curran. After double-bogey the 10th hole on Sunday, Matthews salvaged his round by going two-under for his final 10 holes. Matthews would finish the day at three-over, one stroke ahead of Curran.
