4/13/2006 Commodores, Eakin Elementary Celebrate Building Dores NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team continued its “Building Dores” initiative on Wednesday, visiting Eakin Elementary to celebrate that school’s outstanding performance in the Commodores’ program of promoting physical fitness. Four members of the VU team (Nicole Jules, Dee Davis, Amy Malo and Jennifer Risper) hosted a pizza party and autograph session for over 150 students in grades K-through-4. The Commodores will visit two more area schools — Poplar Grove Elementary and Fairview Middle — in the coming weeks. Building Dores is a program launched by the Vanderbilt women’s basketball program to promote a healthy lifestyle to the youth of Middle Tennessee. In the fall, Vanderbilt distributed videos to area schools encouraging children to be more involved in physical activity. After finishing an activity log, students were awarded a free ticket to a VU women’s basketball game. Eakin, Poplar Grove and Fairview had the most participants out of more than 80 schools that were involved in the program. |
