4/7/2006 No. 45 Bertrand Upsets No. 3 Srebrovic in Gainesville GAINESVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 7 Commodores fell for the first time in conference play to the No. 3 Florida Gators (16-1, 9-0). The ‘Dores started off the contest by notching the doubles point 2-1, with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. VU Head Coach Geoff Macdonald switched up the doubles lineup, putting former tandem Amanda Fish/Taka Bertrand back in action at No.1, pairing Amanda Taylor and Caroline Ferrell at No. 2 and, keeping Courtney Ulery and Liberty Sveke at No. 3. Taka Bertrand followed up with the only singles win of the night, in a huge upset over Florida’s No. 3 Diana Srebrovic at No. 2. “Taka is just so tough. She’s unbelievable calm and composed under pressure. She never feels like she’s out of the match,” VU Assistant Coach Meike Babel said. The ‘Dores were unable to pull of another singles win, though Amanda Taylor and Caroline Ferrell took their opponents to third sets and Courtney Ulery and Amanda Fish played tiebreakers at No. 1 and No. 4. “It was so close. Florida just played really well defensively and made a couple of unbelievable plays. Everyone on our team is pretty bummed, but it’s a growing process. We really just need to play more teams like this,” Babel said. The ‘Dores will try to regroup for their final SEC regular season road match against South Carolina on Sunday.
