Men’s Golf Eighth After Day Two 3/27/2006
AWENDAW, S.C. — A strong second round bolted the Commodore men’s golf team into tie for eighth place at the Hootie at Bulls Bay, with 18 holes remaining in the three-day event at the Bulls Bay Golf Course (Par 71). Sophomore John Ebert led the Commodores on day two with a two-under-par round of 69. Ebert improved by 11 strokes over his first-round score, bogeyed only twice in the second round while carding four birdies and 12 pars. Junior Luke List remains VU’s highest individual after the second day. On Monday, he matched his first round total of 71 and currently sits in a tie for sixth place at two-under-par. Also scoring for the Commodores on Monday were freshman Tyler Matthews and sophomore Brett Lange, each of whom shaved five strokes off their Sunday rounds. Matthews carded an even-par 71 on Monday, while Lange posted a one-over-par 72. Freshman Jon Curran also improved on his first-day total, but his two-over-par 73 was not good enough to be counted in the team score. The Commodores avoided big numbers on Monday, eliminating all three of the double-bogeys that hampered their initial round. Overall, conditions on Monday were more favorable to scoring, with most teams improving on their first-round scores. Wake Forest stretched its lead to 13 strokes over South Carolina. Augusta State, North Carolina and UCF round out the top five. The Commodores stand at 11-over, in a tie for eighth place with Clemson and the College of Charleston. The 15-team field includes six teams from the Southeastern Conference, with Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky and Louisiana State all standing between six and eight strokes back of Vanderbilt. The teams will play a final 18 holes on Tuesday. Vanderbilt Results Team Standings (Through First Round) Top 10 Individuals |
