Top 10 Performance for List on Day One 3/26/2006
AWENDAW, S.C. — Luke List’s Top 10 performance Sunday on day one of the Hootie at Bulls Bay lifted the Commodores into a tie for 11th after 18 holes at the three-day event at Bulls Bay Golf Course (Par 71). List finished the day with a one-under-par 70. After eagling the 10th hole, the Ringgold, Ga., native was as low as three-under, but a bogey and double bogey on the next two holes brought the junior back to even. A birdie on the 17th hole ensured that the VU junior would be one of 12 golfers under par for the first day. The par-five 10th hole proved fruitful for another Commodore, as freshman Jon Curran followed List’s eagle with one of his own. Curran ended the day with a three-over-par 74. The next hole was not as kind to Vanderbilt, as five Commodores combined for three bogeys and two double-bogeys on the par-four 11th. Also scoring for the Commodores were freshman Tyler Matthews and sophomore Brett Lange. Matthews posted a five-over-par 76, one shot ahead of Lange’s six-over-par 77. Lange’s up-and-down round included only two pars on the back nine. Wake Forest leads after the first round after posting a nine-under-par 275. South Carolina, which posted a five-under 279, was the only other team under par. The Commodores stand at 13-over, in a tie for 11th place with Virginia. The 15-team field includes six teams from the Southeastern Conference. The teams will play 18 holes on Monday and finish with a final round on Tuesday.
